Private Beaver tour by Canoe for two people, Perthshire

The beaver, believe it or not, is a species that is native to Scotland. They were hunted to extinction 400 years ago and were only re-introduced to the Scottish countryside in 2009. With this experience, you’ll enjoy a trip to one of Perthshire’s loveliest lochs or rivers to spot the evening wildlife in the late spring or summer.

Arriving at your meeting point in Blairgowrie, you’ll meet with your guide for the experience who will run through the trip ahead. You’ll then travel to a loch close to Blairgowrie, or a stretch on the Rivers Isla or Ericht and some of the best viewing areas for these amazing creatures. This experience is perfect for beginners to more experienced paddlers and the location will be chosen based on your ability.

Once you are kitted out with your buoyancy aid and canoe, it’s time to take to the water. This area is well known for it’s abundance of wildlife and en route you’ll hopefully get the chance to spot some of the other local wildlife including Kingfishers, Sand Martins, Dippers and Goosanders. Your guide will tell you about the history of beavers in Scotland and their life story as you enjoy your nice, easy canoe.

During your trip, you’ll see lots of evidence of the family of wild beavers, including their amazing lodge, beaver canals and feeding stations. Whilst there, also try and spot the examples of beavers tree felling, bark stripping and general riparian improvements.

At the end of your experience you can enjoy a wee dram with your instructor. This is an incredible experience, perfect for nature lovers!
