The Porsche 996 is widely regarded as one of the worst 911’s by many, especially Porsche purists. This model, as many of you will be aware was the first water cooled 911 and as such divided opinion like there was no tomorrow. However, as is normally the case when a well established tradition is broken, people get a bit upset. The 996 represented a big move for Porsche and something that was unavoidable due to emission regulations. The air cooled cars would simply not stand up to modern rules and so something had to change. And so the 996 was launched to mixed reviews which we feel was unfair. Apart from the questionable headlights the 996 was and is true to its 911 roots and is a great driver’s car.

The great thing about the fact that it is not the most popular 911 means that, as a lot of them were built you can buy them relatively cheap. There are issues to rectify and some improvements to make but with a little time and patience all sorts is possible.

WHAT’S DIFFERENT?

The car you see here is a showcase of what we, and more importantly Phil our magician/ mechanic is able to do with a relatively normal car. Looking at the pictures it is immediately obvious how the car has changed but you won’t get the whole story until you are behind the wheel.

The sound, the stance, the responsiveness, handling and of course the performance make this standard 996 Carrera what we believe it should have been right from the start.
