Try a completely unique craft experience with this glass bead making workshop, for two people. Through the process of lampworking – also known as glass bead making – together you’ll learn to create your own glass bead each, which you can take home at the end of the workshop.

Lampworking is a type of glasswork where a torch or lamp is primarily used to melt the glass. Once in a molten state, the glass is formed on a mandrel by turning the mandrel consistently.

Your experienced tutor will first demonstrate how the process works. You’ll receive all the tools and materials you need for the workshop as well as guidance on how to use these to make your own glass bead. Add your glass bead to an existing piece of jewellery, or use it to create a new necklace or bracelet.

The history of lampwork beads goes back thousands of years when artists made their beads over candles and with special “lanterns”. Romans and Italians are some of the first bead makers to use these processes. The very same process is used today, only with more technical, precise flames and very innovative torches.

This is a unique craft workshop suitable for both those with experience in lampworking and complete beginners. A fun day out to learn an exciting skill, you’ll leave the workshop with a host of knowledge into the art of lampworking, not to mention your very own glass bead which will be delivered to you once fired in the kiln.
