The beaver, believe it or not, is a species that is native to Scotland. They were hunted to extinction 400 years ago and were only re-introduced to the Scottish countryside in 2009. With this experience, you’ll enjoy a trip to one of Perthshire’s loveliest rivers to spot the evening wildlife in the late spring or summer.

Arriving at your meeting point in Blairgowrie, you’ll meet with your guide for the evening who will run through the trip ahead. You’ll then travel to the River Ericht and some of the best viewing areas for these amazing creatures. This area is well known for it’s abundance of wildlife and en route you’ll hopefully get the chance to spot some of the other local wildlife including Kingfishers, Sand Martins, Dippers and Goosanders.

Whilst walking to the river, your guide will tell you about the history of beavers in Scotland and their life story. You’ll also learn about their re-introduction in Scotland and why they are so important to the ecology of Scottish rivers. There will also be the opportunity to forage along the riverside for edible plants.

At the beavers lodge, you’ll see a family of wild beavers, feeding, swimming and interacting with each other. Whilst there, try and spot the examples of beavers tree felling, bark stripping and general riparian improvements.

This is an incredible experience, perfect for nature lovers and familles! The extended time increases the range of activity you are likely to see.
