Canoeing is a great, fun way to enjoy the water and this session will undoubtedly leave you and a friend with a new hobby and a thirst for some more canoeing action!

Upon arrival you’ll meet your highly qualified instructor who will provide you each with the necessary equipment. Starting from picturesque Fort Augustus, you’ll get the chance to experience a short paddling tour along the southern shore of Loch Ness in very stable open (canadian-style) canoes.

With paddle in hand you’ll be shown some of the basic paddling strokes and techniques. With your instructors guidance, you will learn to manoeuvre your boat forwards, backwards and master basic turns. You may also cover the effect that the wind and the waves have on your boat if required. This experience is suitable for adults and children from 7 years old. Young children will sit on an extra third seat in the canoe, so there are still two people to paddle and control the canoe.

Enjoy stunning views and experience the likes of Inchnacardoch Bay, Cherry Island (the site of an ancient ‘crannog’ – house on stilts), Fort Augustus Abbey and the mouths of the Rivers Tarf and Oich from the unique perspective of a small boat on the big loch. If the weather is calm your instructor will also take you out into the middle of the loch to look for Nessie!
