Explore your creative side with this full-day course in either Sculpting/Stone Carving or Letter Carving. This is an incredible opportunity to develop or discover your skills using a new medium and the extended length enables you time to really get to grips with the new tools and create something spectacular.

Upon arrival, you will be welcomed and introduced to the rest of your group at the studio. The classes are kept small and intimate (two or three people) to enable personalized tuition from the tutor. Prior to the day, you’ll have been asked to look at calligraphy, lettering and design styles so that you are familiar with lettering before you begin.

With this experience, you will learn to think three-dimensionally and how to manipulate the stone from the basic idea to the finished sculpture or relief. You will be shown how to cut straight, curved, diagonally and in-depth before trying it yourself. Your tutor will go through all the different tools and how to use them correctly.

In the afternoon you’ll spend your time practising what you’ve learned in the morning and start cutting your first letter or number. There will also be a discussion of the importance of preparation and you will learn about style, proportion, spacing and form in lettering as well as the importance of drawing your design onto the stone before carving.
