On a crisp Autumn day, Craig and I were lucky enough to have an overnight stay in the gorgeous ‘Wooden Lodge’ at Enterkine House Hotel. The hotel itself is a privately owned, 4 star converted country house, located in the heart of the Ayrshire countryside.
Driving up the tree-lined, private, driveway we parked at the customer car park and checked in in the main house where we received a very warm greeting from the reception team. We were provided with the key to our lodge and were then pointed in the direction of our accommodation… nestled down the path, at the end of the garden, beside a large rhododendron and below a large beech tree was our room for the night!
From the exterior, the Woodland Lodge looks like your standard glamping hut, but inside we were in for a real surprise! The room really is opulent and enchanting with a large double bed, sumptuous drapes and soft furnishings that are reminiscent of the French Regency period. The en-suite shower room was modern and beautifully finished and
despite it being only a couple of degrees outside, the under floor heating ensured it was warm and cosy inside! There was also a chilled bottle of Prosecco awaiting our arrival – the perfect way to start a romantic break.
After going for a walk around the grounds, chilling in our room and drinking the aforementioned Prosecco(!) we went across to the main house for our dinner reservation, which was part of the package we had.
Dinner is held in the hotel’s award winning restaurant ‘Browne’s’. We were met by the waiting staff who showed us to a very comfy sofa by the fire. Relaxing by the fire in a grand country house living room whilst we chose from the set menu was a very luxurious way to start our evening meal. The ambiance of the restaurant was wonderful and after deciding what to have for our dinner, we were shown to our table. The food itself was divine; Enterkine’s Master Chef creates fine dining experiences using the best of the local Ayrshire produce. The dishes were delicious and also looked spectacular on the plate! After enjoying our meal, we retired back to the fireside where we indulged in a night cap before returning to our lodge.
In the morning, before checking out, we had a delicious breakfast in the dining room of the main hotel. As well as a cooked breakfast, we also had the option of pastries and cereal too, all enjoyed with the backdrop of the stunning panoramic views across Ayrshire.
This really was the perfect romantic getaway, the service and welcome we received at the Hotel was first class and the accommodation was novel but extremely luxurious and private. I can not recommend this experience enough!
