Afternoon Tea Onboard a Vintage Bus for Two, Edinburgh
- Travel on a vintage 1966 Routemaster Bus
- Delight in afternoon tea as you see the sights of Edinburgh
- A unique experience in the heart of the capital city
Natasha and I both jumped at the opportunity to spend a Saturday indulging in an afternoon tea for two… with a twist! On this experience, whilst the food and beverages are what you’d expect from an afternoon tea the setting is far from traditional as it takes place aboard a vintage, red, 1966 Routemaster Bus as you tour around Edinburgh!
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the friendly conductor, kitted out in the traditional 1960s outfits, who directed us to our seats on the upper deck. We headed up the curved staircase to meet another staff member who showed us to our seats and talked us through the delicious food options, already set out on a gorgeous slate cake stand at our table. The decor on board really tries to emulate the era with 1960s themed items and Scottish quotations. There was also a map at our table highlighting the main sights and some of the fascinating culture of Edinburgh, which you can follow as you wind along the city streets. This was especially helpful to Natasha as she had only recently moved to Edinburgh, so allowed her to see a lot more of the city and its fascinating history!
Our hot drinks arrived in red insulated travel cups, perfect to fit into the handy cup holders – essential to avoid any spillages on board a moving vehicle! Both of us were excited as we tucked into the amazing array of food on offer. There were scones with cream and jam, finger sandwiches with salmon, ham and cheese, mini quiches/tarts and sweet treats like cupcakes, macarons, eclairs and chocolate bites.
The food was delicious and it was great fun to see different sights as we indulged in our scones with clotted cream and drank our tea. We passed landmarks including Edinburgh Castle, Greyfriars Bobby and the beautiful Meadows. After touring the Old Town, we headed towards the New Town, marvelling at the architecture as we tucked into our cupcakes! As the journey came to a close, we were fit to burst having made sure to taste everything on our afternoon tea tray.
This is an amazing experience that enables you to see the incredible sights of Edinburgh whilst enjoy delicious treats and baking! Perfect for a special treat or a catch up with friends!
